MALIBU, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's and women's cross country opened the 2026 season Friday morning at the Waves Invitational, hosted by Pepperdine at Alumni Park.
The Kingsmen finished second in the men's 6K with 50 points, trailing host Pepperdine's 15 points in the 32-runner field.
Freshman
Julian Guignard led the way for Cal Lutheran in his first collegiate race, crossing the finish line in 20:37.1 to place 15th overall. Fellow freshman
Henry Gonzalez followed in 17th at 21:08.2, while
Daniel Velasquez finished 18th in 21:33.1.
Tristan Kanner placed 19th at 21:47.5, and
Adrian Rodriguez rounded out the Kingsmen's top five in 21st at 22:27.0.
Diego Romero (23:19.3),
Quintin Wilson (23:19.8),
Noah Mullins (24:40.5),
Armando Cuevas Guzman (25:33.2) and
Austin Porter (26:19.6) also competed for the Kingsmen.
On the women's side, Cal Lutheran placed fourth in the 4K with 106 points in a 38-runner field. Pepperdine won the team competition with 24 points, followed by the University of Southern California (42) and CSU Bakersfield (72).
Alexis Gonzalez paced the Regals with a 13th-place finish in 15:00.9.
Ellie Sinclair followed in 29th at 16:09.2, while freshman
Nico Wilson finished 31st in 16:18.9.
Alison Orwin crossed in 16:23.5 for 32nd, followed by
Angelina Diaz in 16:30.6 and
Sophie Wight in 16:38.2.
Cal Lutheran returns to action Saturday, September 19, at the UC Riverside Invitational.
