THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran Athletics has announced the hiring of Carlie James as its new Assistant Sports Information Director, joining the Athletic Communications office on August 10.

James brings a unique combination of creative, communications, and coaching experience to the role after spending the past four years in Cal Lutheran's Marketing and Communications Department as a graphic designer. She will work alongside Sports Information Director Faith Wayman to support all facets of athletic communications for the Kingsmen and Regals.

She has already brought so many great ideas for how we can continue to grow, and I'm excited to hit the ground running with her. Most importantly, her dedication to investing in our students and creating meaningful experiences for them aligns so closely with the values of this office, and I'm thrilled to have a partner who shares that same motivation."

James joined Cal Lutheran's Marketing and Communications Department in 2022, where she was responsible for producing creative visual assets for the Athletics Department and its 22 varsity sports. Her work included print and digital materials, environmental graphics, signage, merchandise, gear, and equipment designs.

In her new role, James will assist with website management, statistics and records, media relations, social media management, graphic design, photography and videography, and live streaming operations.

In addition to her new role in Sports Information, James will continue serving as an assistant coach for the Cal Lutheran women's soccer team, a position she has held since 2024. During her time with the Regals, she has helped lead the team to two NCAA Tournament appearances, including an NCAA Division III Sweet 16 run in 2025.

James earned her Master of Science in Sports Management from Cal Lutheran in May 2026 after graduating magna cum laude from San José State University in 2020 with a bachelor's degree in Design Studies and a minor in Communication Studies.

A four-year student-athlete at SJSU, James played Division I soccer in the Mountain West Conference. She earned Most Inspirational Player honors, was recognized as an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar, and was named to the Academic All-Mountain West Team. She also served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and as a team captain for the Spartans.

A native of Calabasas, California, James was a four-year captain at Calabasas High School and played for Eagles Soccer Club for more than 15 years.
