THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran Athletics is celebrating a remarkable milestone for one of its longest-serving members as Kecia Davis was recognized for 35 years of service to the university during Wednesday's Employee Recognition & Campus Picnic.
Since joining Cal Lutheran in 1991, Davis has held a number of roles across athletics and academics. Over the course of her career, she has served as head women's basketball coach, head softball coach, assistant athletic trainer, head athletic trainer and, since 2021, Director of Health, Wellness and Performance.
Her career at Cal Lutheran has also extended well beyond the athletic training room. Davis has been a familiar presence in the Exercise Science Department, where she has taught numerous courses, including core courses in the Athletic Training Education Program, and served as the program's director from 2008-10. Across her various positions, Davis has remained a constant presence within the Cal Lutheran community, connecting athletics, academics and student life throughout her career.
"Kecia's 35-year career milestone is a true reflection of her character and commitment to living her life with purpose," said Interim Vice President and Director of Athletics
Elizabeth Brooks. "She has made a lasting contribution to the well-being and development of countless student-athletes, and her passion for supporting others continues to shape their experiences both on and off the field."
For Davis, the milestone is a reflection of a career built around relationships and the people who have been part of her journey at Cal Lutheran.
"I have spent over half my life at Cal Lutheran working with all types of student-athletes. I love helping them not only get better with their injuries, but figuring out what they want to do in life," said Davis. "It's very satisfying to not only see kids get better after injuries, but to see them succeed in college and then on to life. I have lifelong friends from students that I've had here, and I love meeting the new students that come in."
"CLU is a great place to work with great support," Davis continued. "It's my family, and everyone that I have met here holds a special place in my heart. I've loved my time and will continue to support our students in any way I can."
A Cal Poly San Luis Obispo graduate with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Davis earned her master's degree in Kinesiology from Cal State University, Northridge. During her time at Cal Poly, the NSCA All-American played softball and worked as a student athletic trainer for several of the university's athletic teams.
After beginning her teaching career at Moorpark College, Davis found her way to Cal Lutheran in 1991, where she has spent the last three and a half decades building a career that has touched nearly every corner of the university's athletic and academic communities.
