THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – California Lutheran University has named Elizabeth Brooks Interim Athletic Director following the retirement of Associate Vice President and Athletic Director Howard Davis, effective immediately.

Davis served Cal Lutheran with distinction over the last three years, providing leadership for the Kingsmen and Regals athletic department. The university expressed its gratitude for his leadership and commitment to Cal Lutheran's student-athletes, noting that he helped pave the way for athletics excellence during his tenure. Davis will be recognized for his service to the Cal Lutheran community at a later date.

The university also recognized Brooks and Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator Katie Bell for their exceptional leadership during Davis' recent leave. Their professionalism and dedication helped keep the department running smoothly while continuing to support Cal Lutheran's student-athletes.

Looking ahead, the university has developed a two-part plan to ensure continued momentum and strong leadership within Cal Lutheran Athletics.

Brooks, who most recently served as Operations Coordinator & Budget Analyst, has agreed to serve as Interim Athletic Director and will lead the department while maintaining operational consistency during the transition. She brings a proven track record of expertise in human resources and employee relations, risk and compliance, and financial management developed throughout her distinguished career.

Alongside Brooks' leadership, the university will engage an external consultant to conduct a comprehensive assessment of Cal Lutheran Athletics to help identify the qualities and opportunities needed in the university's next permanent Athletic Director. The interim period and assessment are anticipated to take six to 12 months.

At the same time, Cal Lutheran will launch a national search for its next permanent Athletic Director. The university has already begun working with search firms and is forming a search committee led by Chief Strategy & Growth Officer Dr. Laureen Hill. The goal is to identify a leader who will build on the strong foundation of Cal Lutheran Athletics and champion the success of the university's student-athletes.
