MONTEREY PARK, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up competition at the 2026 SCIAC Championships on Saturday, as the Regals placed fifth overall with 336 points and the Kingsmen finished sixth with 320.
The women turned in a strong final-day performance, highlighted by a pair of top-four finishes.
Victoria Lawrence led the way in the 1650-yard freestyle, placing fourth in 17:32.58 for the team's highest individual finish of the evening. Earlier in the day,
Julia Benko made history in the 200-yard backstroke, breaking the school record in the morning prelims with a 2:06.36 to qualify for finals before going on to place seventh overall in 2:06.94.
Madi Bodhidatta added a seventh-place finish in the 100 free, touching in 51.58, and later helped the Regals close the meet with a fourth-place showing in the 400 free relay. Bodhidatta teamed with Lawrence,
Callahan White, and
Abbey Kantz to combine for a time of 3:32.13, capping the championships on a high note.
On the men's side,
Sebi Petho placed seventh in the 1650 free with a time of 16:18.90, while
McKay Nelms recorded the Kingsmen's top individual finish of the night, taking fourth in the 200 backstroke in 1:51.78.
Andreas Nordlund earned seventh in the 100 free (45.65), and
Zach Zauhar-Kurr added a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching in 2:01.76.
The Kingsmen closed out the meet with a fifth-place finish in the 400 free relay, as Nordlund,
Tristan Serrano,
Connor Overton, and
Paul Patterson combined for a 3:05.46.
Saturday marked the end of the season for the majority of both squads, but Cal Lutheran will still be represented further in the postseason. Divers
Camden Franjieh and
Maddie Greig are set to compete at NCAA Regionals in mid-March, while Bodhidatta is expected to qualify for the NCAA Championships, pending official selection.
