COSTA MESA, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's golf wrapped up the SCIAC Championships on Tuesday afternoon at the par-71 Mesa Linda course at Costa Mesa Country Club. Led by
Ashley Zook's hot start, the Regals took sole possession of third place with a team score of +36 through 154 holes. Zook shot the lowest 54-hole score in program history with a 216 as she placed in the top-5 individually in the tournament.
Coming off tying the lowest team round in program history (293) the day prior, Cal Lutheran sat in fourth place entering the final round.
Zook began the day hot, sinking three birdies over the first seven holes. From then on, she played well enough to shoot +2 and secure the lowest 54-hole score in program history at 216, +3. She tied for fifth individually for the tournament as she avoided anything worse than a bogey all week.
Coming off tying the third-lowest round in program history with a 70 in day two,
Maya Dela Rama carried her momentum into the final round. She couldn't manage a birdie all day, but nine-consecutive pars to start the day and six more in the back-nine contributed to a +3 round on Tuesday. Just a few strokes behind Zook, Dela Rama produced the second-lowest 54-hole score in program history at 220, +7. She finished ninth individually in the tournament.
Caroline Morris knocked in a couple of birdies on the front-nine on holes 1 and 8. She added four pars on the back-nine to finish the day at +4, allowing her to join Zook and Dela Rama on the 54-hole top-10 list. Morris ended with a 226, +13, good for the sixth-lowest score in program history.
Anna Poulin collected a birdie on the par-4 hole 15 en route to a +6 final round. Her 54-hole score of 228, +15, marked her down with the nine-lowest such score in program history. With four Regals joining the top-10 list, it was quite a successful tournament for Cal Lutheran.
Brooke Alderson was able to convert a birdie on the par-5 hole 14, adding to her final round of +7 and her tournament score of +18.
Cal Lutheran set a new school record for lowest team score in a 54-hole tournament with 888 as each of the five Regals contributed to that historic total.
Despite the record-setting performance by Cal Lutheran, the SCIAC competition was at its best in Costa Mesa this week, with Pomona-Pitzer finishing at +3 and CMS coming in second at +16.
The Regals will await their fate as the at-large bids for the NCAA Championships will be announced on Monday.
