Kingsmen Tee Off at SCIAC #2

Hudson Solters
PALMDALE, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's golf competed in the SCIAC #2 this weekend at the par-72 Antelope Valley Country Club. The Kingsmen finished 7th.

Coming off a tournament win at the Kingsmen Invitational three weeks prior, the Kingsmen were looking to carry the momentum they had been riding with three consecutive top-2 finishes. Cal Lutheran finished 2nd in the first SCIAC tournament as Hudson Solters claimed 3rd individually.

ROUND ONE
Blake Fitzhugh led the Kingsmen in round one on Saturday despite bogeying holes 4 and 5. He quickly regained his composure with back-to-back birdies on par-4 hole 8 and par-5 hole 9 to sit at even-par after the front-nine. Another set of back-to-back birdies on par-4 hole 13 and par-5 hole 14 saved Fitzhugh a few strokes on the back-nine as he finished with a 75.

Ty Kuroda dropped in 11 pars along with back-to-back birdies on hole 14 and par-4 hole 15 en route to a 76 on the opening round. Adam Cartozian had quite an adventurous day with an impressive seven birdies to go with three pars, five bogeys, two double-bogey, and a dreadful triple-bogey on the first hole, a par-4. Cartozian finished with a 77.

Jackson Stitt also shot a 77 but with a little less variance than Cartozian. Still, he dropped in four birdies and just seven pars to finish at 5-over. Solters played a brutal front-nine before settling in to score an even-par on the back-nine behind seven pars and a birdie on par-5 hole 18. He finished with an 81.

The Kingsmen sat at +17 after round one, good enough for 5th-place entering day two.

ROUND TWO
Solters continued his strong play over from the back-nine into round two, finishing with a 74 despite birdying the first two holes. The rest of the way, he sunk three birdies and 10 pars to consistently shoot a 37 on both the front- and back-nines.

Fitzhugh rode three birdies and eight pars to a 77 on the day. Kuroda knocked in two birdies and ended with an 80. Cartozian managed three more birdies, giving him double-digit birdies on the weekend, but he finished with an 80 as well. Stitt shot even-par with two birdies on the front-nine, but couldn't keep it going the rest of the way en route to an 81 on the round.

The Kingsmen played their worst round of golf in quite some time, falling to 7th-place with a team score of +40 after 36 holes.

Cal Lutheran will now gear up for the SCIAC Championships a few weeks from now at Costa Mesa Country Club from April 27-29.
