Cal Lutheran Collects Three SCIAC Athletes of the Week

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – Cal Lutheran University collected three SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors as Jackson Stitt, Jessica Waters, and Kaitlyn Brongiel delivered strong performances across men's golf, softball, and women's track and field, the conference announced Monday.

Men's Golf
Stitt, a sophomore standout for the Kingsmen, led Cal Lu to a second-place team finish at SCIAC No. 2 in Beaumont while capturing the individual title for the first time in his collegiate career.

He finished the tournament at +1 overall, opening with a 3-over 75 before surging in the final round with a 2-under 70 to win the field by three strokes. Stitt's final-round performance fueled the Kingsmen's team comeback, as they improved from +22 on day one to +15 on day two to finish at +37.

He led all players with two eagles and added five birdies in a dominant showing. The honor marks his first career SCIAC Athlete of the Week selection and the second for the Kingsmen golf program this season.

Softball – Hitter
Waters, a junior from Spokane, Washington, delivered in clutch moments to help power the Regals' series finale comeback victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

After the Regals were held hitless in the opener, Waters reached base consistently over the next two games and made her biggest impact in game three. With the Regals trailing 5-1 late, she blasted a three-run home run to cut into the deficit. In the bottom of the seventh, she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing CLU within one run and setting the stage for a walk-off win in the next at-bat.

For the weekend, Waters totaled two hits, three walks, three RBI, a run scored, and a home run while continuing to find ways to contribute offensively. The honor marks her second career and second straight SCIAC Athlete of the Week selection, as she earns back-to-back recognition.

Women's Track & Field – Field
Brongiel, a freshman dual sport athlete, led the way for the Regals at the Moorpark College Open, capturing first place in the high jump with a personal-best clearance of 1.60 meters.

Her performance accounted for Cal Lu's lone event victory at the meet and marked a significant milestone early in her collegiate track and field career.

The award is Brongiel's first SCIAC Athlete of the Week honor in track and field, as she previously earned the distinction during the women's basketball season earlier this year.
