BEAUMONT, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's golf delivered this past weekend, finishing second at SCIAC No. 2 at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon while knocking off No. 24 Pomona-Pitzer behind a standout individual performance from
Jackson Stitt.
Stitt claimed the tournament title for the first time in his collegiate career, finishing atop the leaderboard at +1 after rounds of 75 and an impressive 2-under 70. After sitting just off the lead following day one, he surged on Saturday with a composed and efficient round, using a 3-under back nine to separate from the field and secure the victory.
His performance powered the Kingsmen to a runner-up team finish at +38, as Cal Lu showed improvement from round one (+22) to round two (+15) in a competitive conference field.
Ryan Mattivi turned in a solid performance to finish tied for ninth at +11, opening with a steady 75 before adding an 80 in the final round.
Nick Huffman followed closely behind, placing tied for 14th at +13. After a challenging first round, he bounced back with a 3-over 75 on Saturday to climb the standings.
Tate Evans finished tied for 21st at +15, improving in the second round with a 78, while
Ty Kuroda rounded out the scoring lineup in 26th at +17.
Competing as individuals,
Luke Rimkunas delivered an impressive showing with a seventh-place finish at +9, highlighted by a strong 3-over 75 in round two.
Aidan Allen also competed as an individual, placing tied for 17th at +14.
The Kingsmen now turn their focus to the postseason stretch, beginning with an exhibition tri-match at Santa Anita Golf Course on April 12 against Occidental and Chapman. Cal Lutheran will then compete for a conference title at the SCIAC Championships, set for April 23-25 at the same course.
