COSTA MESA, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's golf teed off at the opening round of the SCIAC Championships on Sunday morning at the par-71 Mesa Linda course at Costa Mesa Country Club.
Ashley Zook led the Regals with an individual score of even-par as the Regals shot +12 as a team, tying them for fourth.
Zook began the morning on fire with three birdies in the first six holes. She rode that start to a 34 over the front-nine, 2-under par. She dropped in a fourth birdie on the par-5 hole 11 and eventually finished with a 71, placing Zook in a tie for fourth individually, four strokes back of the leader.
Brooke Alderson ended her round with a pair of birdies on holes 17 and 18, her third and fourth of the day, respectively. She ended at +3 after shooting a 34 on the back-nine.
Caroline Morris led the Regals with five birdies on Sunday, but three-consecutive double-bogeys to end the front-nine landed her at +4 on the round. She shot 2-under across the other 15 holes.
Maya Dela Rama collected two birdies in the front-nine including one on the par-5 opening hole. She ended the day at +5 after shooting a 76.
Anna Poulin strung together a couple birdies on holes 13 and 14 en route to a +5 round.
Cal Lutheran is currently tied for fourth with Occidental at +12. Pomona Pitzer and Redlands sit atop the leaderboard tied at even-par with two more rounds remaining over the next two days.
The first of the Regals will tee off at 9:15am tomorrow morning.
