COSTA MESA, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's golf kicked off the SCIAC Championships on Sunday morning at the par-72 Dos Lagos course at Costa Mesa Country Club. After the first of three rounds, the Kingsmen sit tied for second at -3 led by
Hudson Solters' impressive round of -4.
Solters began the day on fire, collecting birdies on each of the opening three holes and five total birdies on the front nine, in which Solters shot a 33. He went even-par on the back nine to end at 4-under, which ties him at second individually sitting two strokes back of the leader.
Tanner Stewart played consistent golf, netting 13 pars and a birdie before dropping in an eagle on the final hole, a 522-yard par 5. The eagle brought him to even-par on the day, good enough for a top-10 finish individually.
Joining Stewart at even-par was
Blake Fitzhugh, as he put in three birdies during his round.
Ty Kuroda also contributed three birdies en route to a 1-over finish.
Adam Cartozian was second on the team with four birdies on the day, but a double-bogey on the par-4 hole 8 held him to a 1-over finish in round one. It was the only hole that a Cal Lutheran golfer dropped a double-bogeyed or worse on throughout the morning, a testament to the quality golf played by the Kingsmen to open the SCIAC Championships.
Cal Lutheran is currently tied for second with Pomona-Pitzer at -3. Redlands caught fire and now sits alone in first at -9 with two more rounds remaining over the next two days.
The first of the Kingsmen will tee off at 9:15am tomorrow morning.
