VENTURA, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's golf teed off at Olivas Links this weekend in the first conference tournament of the 2025 spring season. The Kingsmen had a historic performance, shooting 7-under as a team to finish second-place in SCIAC #1. It was the second-lowest 36-hole team score in program history.
Hudson Solters led the way for Cal Lutheran, shooting 3-under which tied him at third-place individually.
ROUND 1
Despite starting with a bogey on hole one, Solters settled in and made four birdies in six holes to close out the front-nine at 2-under. He recorded two birdies and six pars in the back-nine to finish at 3-under on the day. He had three bogeys and nothing worse on the par-72 Olivas course.
Adam Cartozian began conference play on fire, knocking in five birdies and four pars in the front-nine. He lost some touch on the back-nine, however, with no birdies and four bogeys to finish at one-under.
Blake Fitzhugh had a solid day with two birdies, 13 pars, and three bogeys for a 73.
Jackson Stitt was the only Kingsmen golfer to record any double bogeys with two, but he made up for it with an impressive five birdies, including three on the last four holes to notch a 73.
Tanner Stewart logged three birdies, 11 pars, and four bogeys to join Fitzhugh and Stitt at 1-over on the day.
The Kingsmen would finish at 2-under in Round 1, tying them at second and putting them three strokes behind the lead. Solters was tied for fifth individually.
ROUND 2
Fitzhugh upped his performance in the second day, dropping in six birdies and nine pars on his way to a 69. Three of his birdies came on par-5s. Stitt strung together a remarkably consistent round, registering 14 pars to only one bogey. He birdied three par-4s to finish at 2-under on the round.
Solters was a bit up-and-down following his outstanding opening round. He looked to be in position to take home an individual win after eagling the 514-yard, par-5 hole 4. He sat at 2-under after the front-nine, placing him at 5-under after 27 holes. A couple of double bogeys in the back-nine would give his scorecard some trouble, but he managed to birdie three more holes to salvage his back-nine. He would finish with a 72.
This time around, Cartozian had a better back-nine than front. Two early bogeys had him at 2-over through nine, but three birdies, including each of the final two holes, brought him back to even-par on the day. Stewart had a round to forget, finishing five-over.
The second round saw four Kingsmen finish at even-par or better, with a score of 283 being the seventh-lowest team round in program history.
Cal Lutheran would finish in second place, with a 36-hole team score of 569. That is the second-lowest in program history–just one stroke behind the record, which the Kingsmen set last year, also in the first SCIAC tournament of the season. Cartozian and Solters were part of that group.
The Kingsmen will travel to Kerrville, Texas for their next tournament, the Shreiner Shoot-Out at Comanche Trace. First tee is scheduled for 6am PT, 8am local time on March 3.
