RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's golf officially teed off for the first time in 2025 in the West Coast Classic on Monday and Tuesday, hosted by Lewis & Clark at the Victoria Club in Riverside. The Kingsmen finished in seventh with a team score of +25, and
Blake Fitzhugh finished tied for fourteenth at +4.
Traveling for Cal Lutheran were
Adam Cartozian, Fitzhugh,
Ty Kuroda,
Hudson Solters, and
Tanner Stewart. The event consisted of two shotgun rounds over two mornings, with Victoria playing as a par-72.
In round one, Fitzhugh started off strong with a birdie on the par-4 hole 12, which he carried into a -1 start through four holes. He would finish at +3 with four birdies on the day. Solters knocked in two birdies while avoiding any double-bogeys or worse, riding that consistency to a +3 finish. Cartozian birdied three of the four par-5s en route to a +5 round. Stewart played a roller coaster of a round, leading the team with five birdies while only converting four pars, ending at +5. On holes 3-5, Stewart caught fire with three consecutive birdies on the par-4, par-5, and par-3, respectively.
Those four would combine for a team score of +16 after day one, slotting the Kingsmen at eighth heading into Tuesday.
In the second round, Cartozian settled in with a remarkably-consistent 14 pars. Both of his birdies were followed by bogeys as he sat at even-par for the majority of the day, tying him at sixth in the round individually. Fitzhugh recovered from a rough start (+3 through 4) to finish at +1, knocking in five birdies–interestingly, none occurred on par-5s, and four of them were in a six-hole span (holes 2-7). Solters drained birdies on three of the four par-5s and ended at +4. Stewart recorded two birdies en route to a +4 round. Including Kuroda, the Kingsmen only had one double-bogey in 90 holes.
The Kingsmen finished with a team score of +9 in round two, tying them for third on the day. Added to the round one score, they finished at +25 and seventh out of 13 teams.
Cal Lutheran will look to continue gaining momentum in the first SCIAC rounds at Olivas Links in Ventura on Feb. 22-23.
