ORANGE, Calif. - After a successful preseason schedule, the Cal Lutheran women's water polo team dove in for its Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opener today on the road. Unfortunately, the Regals were on the short end of a tough 10-9 game, falling to Chapman.

SCIAC action opened with a one-goal game. Chapman took a 3-2 lead after the opening period and at the intermission, CLU trailed 5-3. The Regals rallied in the third quarter, outscoring the Panthers 4-3 to close the gap and tied things at 9-9 with 3:33 to play, but the visiting squad was unable to find the back of the net for the remainder of the final frame. Leading the offense were Amanda Jones who not only scored two goals, but supplied four assists and a pair of drawn ejections and Maggie Kurzeka who scored a pair and added an assist. Jones also paced the defensive unit with seven steals and the only field block of the day. Kurzeka earned two steals as did Maddie Campbell and Tatiana McCuaig finished with three. Kristi McGee tallied three drawn ejections, two goals and an assist. Gina Merry recorded 11 saves as the goalkeeper.

Notables: The teams met earlier this spring in a non-conference game at the Claremont Convergence with the Violet and Gold earning a 10-6 victory.

Up Next: Cal Lutheran (8-13, 0-1 SCIAC) returns to action on Wednesday, March 23 when the Regals welcome Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for a 4:00 p.m. first sprint at the Samuelson Aquatics Center.
