THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - On a busy Tuesday at Cal Lutheran, the women's water polo team hosted both Division I Bucknell (Pa.) and Division III Macalester (Minn.) at the Samuelson Aquatics Center, dropping the first, 10-4, before rounding out non-conference play in 2016 with a decisive 11-1 win.

Meeting for the second time of the season, the first on opening weekend, the Regals were unable to avenge a 13-8 loss to the Bison, falling 10-4 at home in the first game of the day. The Violet and Gold was unable to generate enough offense against the DI program. Kristi McGee notched a pair of goals with Amanda Jones and Sam Wulfestieg scoring the other two. The four assists came from as many different Regals, including Jones, Maddie Campbell, Maggie Kurzeka and Nicole Roed who also drew a pair of ejections. Logan Young tallied four steals and Wulfestieg also notched a field block while Gina Merry recorded six saves with a pair of steals.

After scoring at will in the opening eight-minute frame for a 7-0 lead, the home team cruised to the finish. CLU looked to its reserves for a solid overall showing. Jacie Fukada and Darby Schuett combined for 11 steals and provided a pair of goals, Schuett's coming on her only attempt of the game. In just her second career game, Avery Karich notched a hat-trick with Bailey Likewise and Mardell Ramirez scoring a pair apiece. Karich and Megan Seeman bothhanded out two assists and the three drawn ejections came from Karich, Seeman and Nicole Guerriero. Defensively, Merry worked the first quarter, notching a save and an assist, before handing the goalkeeping duties over to Bailey Meyer who finished with three saves and two steals. Additionally, Karich added a filed block, the only of the game.
Cal Lutheran (8-12) opens Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) on Saturday, March 19 at Chapman with first sprint set for 11:00 a.m.
