CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Cal Lutheran men's soccer team found themselves in another tight contest, but fell in overtime 3-2 in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) matchup against Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday night.
Offensive Highlights: Brandon Kearney and Pedro Zaccarelli continued their strong play this season and provided the scoring for the Violet and Gold. Kearney put the Kingsmen on the board first with a goal off a deflection in the 15th minute and he assisted on Zaccarelli's equalizing goal later in the game. Trailing 2-1 in the 54th minute, Kearney found Zaccarelli who knocked in the tying goal. Kearney leads the team with four goals and Zaccarelli is tied for second with two.
The Opponent: Max DeWit scored two goals for the Sagehens, and Peter Rentzepis scored the golden goal just four minutes into the first overtime.
Notables: Goalkeeper Nico Melendez and Peter Wilder each made their season-debuts with their first appearances in front of the net for CLU.
Next Up: Cal Lutheran (1-4-1, 1-3 SCIAC) returns to Rolland Stadium for a non-conference match against Washington (Mo.) this Sunday, Sept. 20 at 10:45 a.m.
