ORANGE, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's soccer erased a two-goal deficit with three unanswered goals in the second half Wednesday night, but Chapman rallied late to hand the Kingsmen a 4-3 setback at Wilson Field.
The loss moved Cal Lutheran to 2-4-2 overall and 0-3-0 in SCIAC, while Chapman improved to 2-2-2 and 1-1-1 in conference play.
The Kingsmen opened their first road contest of the 2026 season after beginning the year with 10 consecutive home games. Chapman struck first in the 22nd minute when Hudson Weinberger found the back of the net to send the Panthers into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Chapman doubled its advantage just 2:30 into the second half as Kobe Lee scored his first of three goals on the night.
Cal Lutheran answered quickly, however, beginning a three-goal surge that completely shifted the momentum.
Dane Paulson put the Kingsmen on the board in the 52nd minute, scoring his first goal of the season.
Just 2:38 later,
Zach Mohr continued his strong start to the year, finding the net for his team-leading fifth goal of 2026 to bring Cal Lutheran level at 2-2.
The Kingsmen then completed the comeback in the 70th minute when
Tika Kakimoto converted a penalty kick to give Cal Lutheran its first lead of the night.
Chapman continued to apply pressure down the stretch, eventually finding the equalizer in the 79th minute. Lee struck again with just under three minutes remaining in regulation, completing his hat trick and putting the Panthers back in front, 4-3.
Chapman finished with a 24-15 advantage in shots and put 12 attempts on target.
Jackson Bankers kept the Kingsmen within striking distance throughout the match, making a Cal Lu career-high eight saves.
The physical battle featured 22 combined fouls and seven cautions, with Chapman accounting for 15 fouls, including 10 in the second half.
Cal Lutheran returns home Saturday, September 26, hosting La Verne for a 1 p.m. kick.
