THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's soccer battled back from a two-goal deficit Saturday afternoon, scoring twice in the second half to earn a 2-2 draw against La Verne at William Rolland Stadium.
The Kingsmen moved to 2-4-3 overall and 0-3-1 in SCIAC, while the Leopards moved to 3-2-4 and 1-1-2 in conference play.
La Verne opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Joel Trejo found the back of the net, sending the Leopards into halftime with a 1-0 advantage. La Verne then doubled its lead just 2:13 into the second half when Marcos Zambrano scored off an assist from Josh Askins Jr.
Facing a two-goal deficit, Cal Lutheran responded with a surge of its own.
Jackson Smart put the Kingsmen on the board in the 55th minute with his first goal of the year to cut the deficit in half. The goal sparked an extended stretch of pressure from Cal Lutheran, which continued to push forward and create chances.
The Kingsmen eventually found the equalizer in the 78th minute.

Maximo Schelotto, who buried his second goal of the season to bring the match level at 2-2.
Cal Lutheran continued to battle through the final 12 minutes, but neither side could find a go-ahead goal as the Kingsmen secured the draw.
The Kingsmen finished with a 14-11 advantage in shots and put seven attempts on target. Cal Lutheran also earned four corner kicks to La Verne's two.
Anthony Sound made two saves in goal for the Kingsmen.
The Kingsmen return to action Wednesday, September 30, traveling to Redlands for a 7 p.m. match. Cal Lutheran then returns home Saturday, October 3, for Senior Night against Caltech at 6 p.m.
