THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's soccer took an early lead against No. 12 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday night, but the Stags scored twice in the second half to hand the Kingsmen a 2-1 setback at William Rolland Stadium.
The Kingsmen held CMS scoreless through the opening 45 minutes, with
Anthony Sound making two saves to keep the Stags off the board. Cal Lutheran also created opportunities of its own, putting two shots on frame in the first half, including an early attempt from
Jackson Smart that was saved by CMS goalkeeper Axel Jimenez.
Cal Lutheran broke through just 30 seconds into the second half.

Nathan Buehler, who finished the chance to give the Kingsmen a 1-0 lead in the 46th minute.
The advantage held for nearly 14 minutes before CMS responded. Daniel Zhu scored in the 60th minute to level the match, then found the back of the net again just over three minutes later to put the Stags ahead 2-1.
The Kingsmen continued to push for an equalizer, generating several chances down the stretch.

Shaw Nishizawa each recorded a shot, while
Maximo Schelotto forced a team save in the 78th minute. Cal Lutheran also earned three corner kicks in the final 13 minutes, but could not find the tying goal.
Sound finished with four saves in the match, while Jimenez made two saves for CMS.
The Kingsmen finished with nine shots and five corner kicks. Schelotto led Cal Lutheran with two shots, while seven more Kingsmen each added one.
The loss wraps up a 10-game home stand to open the 2026 season for the Kingsmen, who move to 2-3-2 overall and 0-2-0 in SCIAC play.
Cal Lutheran heads on the road Wednesday, September 23, traveling to Chapman for a 7 p.m. match.
