CLAREMONT, Calif. - For the final time in 2013, the Cal Lutheran men's cross country team lined up, concluding their season at the NCAA Division III West Regionals hosted by Pomona-Pitzer this morning.
In his final collegiate cross country race senior Dominick Allen paced the Kingsmen, finishing 84th in a field of 126 by running the 8K in a time of 27:33.53. Second across the line for CLU was Matt Garvin in 27:48.14 with David Avila on his heels, finishing in 27:54.73.
Junior Garrett Baker and freshman Ryan Perez finished back-to-back in times of 28:19.37 and 28:25.91, respectively.
Also suiting up in the Violet and Gold for the final time in the fall was senior Shawn Jackson as he ran a time of 29:23.49. Rounding out the Cal Lutheran competitors today was freshman Daniel Tustin (31:27.49).
The NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country West Region individual champion was John Guzman from Occidental as he paced the field, winning by more than 12 seconds in 24:40.27. Pomona-Pitzer was crowned the team champion, followed by Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Both squads automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III Nationals next weekend. Of the seven individuals advancing, five men are from the SCIAC.
