LA MIRADA, Calif. - The Cal Lutheran men's cross country team toed the line for the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Multi Duals at La Mirada on Friday afternoon.
As the sun was setting, the Kingsmen lined up for their first league race of the season. Four athletes dropped time from the 2012 edition of the race including Dominick Allen, David Avila, Shawn Jackson and Nick Privitelli.
Pacing the pack for CLU today was Privitelli who finished the 8K in a time of 27:42.30 as a sophomore, lowering his mark by 48 seconds. Matt Garvin was next to complete the course for the Violet and Gold with a run of 27:56.82 and earning the third spot for the Kingsmen was Dominick Allen (28:17.09). Today Allen raced nearly two minutes faster than he did a year ago.
The final two scoring participants for Cal Lutheran at the meet were David Avila and Garrett Baker who ran stride-for-stride to finish back-to-back in times of 28:46.42 and 28:50.90, respectively. Avila shaved off 20 seconds from 2012.
Rounding out the CLU team were Shawn Jackson (29:04.59), Ryan Perez (29:22.22) and Daniel Tustin (31:44.27). Jackson finished his senior Multi Duals race a minute and a half faster than last season.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps went undefeated at 7-0 behind a first place individual finish from Zorg Loustalet (25:24.89). John Guzman (25:27.26) and Colin Smith (25:58.49), both from Occidental, were second and third to represent the only three runners under 26 minutes.
The remainder of the team results behind CMS were Pomona-Pitzer (6-1), Occidental (5-2), Whittier (4-3), La Verne (3-4), Redlands (2-5), Caltech (1-6) and CLU (0-7).
Cal Lutheran will suit up against the same field at Prado Park in Chino Hills, Calif. for the SCIAC Championships on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 11:00 a.m.
