CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Cal Lutheran men's soccer team tallied 15 shots but couldn't quite convert on those scoring chances, falling 6-0 to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Monday night. The Kingsmen came into the game leading the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) in goals allowed with just nine but CMS scored on a third of its shots in the second half.

The Kingsmen came out fast, firing four shots during the first 10 minutes of the first half. Salvador Orozco had his shot sail wide in the seventh minute, Thiago Gaglianone had a shot blocked a minute later and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps goalie Alex Choi made a diving stop on a kick by Kyle Fleming in the 10th minute.

10 minutes later, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps broke through when Ethan Halberg received a pass of a corner-kick from Elijah Lichtenberg and headed a shot into the back of the goal and put CMS up 1-0.

Cal Lutheran would retaliate with four shots of its own including Nathan Davidson's that missed just wide right.

Unfortunately for the Kingsmen, the Staggs would mount a counter-attack following Davidson's shot and then scored on a give-and-go from Michael Crowley to Joseph Romano for the second goal of the game.

CLU would remain two down at half despite leading CMS 10 to six in shots.

The best chance for the Kingsmen came in the 57th minute when Cal Lutheran won a corner-kick. Rex Mascheroni then bent in to Ivan Sanchez who put a shot on goal but was stopped by Choi.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps scored four more goals on 12 second half shots as they secured its seventh league game victory.

Sanchez led CLU with four shots while Fleming, Orozco, Julian Hernandez and Bryce Truver all had two.

Jack Duncan played the first half in front of the goal for the Kingsmen before Rey Rivera-Ramos and Miguel Silva split time in the second.

Halberg led the Stags with two goals while Choi made two saves for the Stags.

Cal Lutheran (8-4-2, 6-2-2 SCIAC) still holds a one game lead on fourth place Whittier and will look to rebound next Saturday, Oct. 19, when it hosts Chapman for its homecoming game. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.
