VENTURA, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's golf opened its fall season at home this week, tying for sixth at the California State Intercollegiate at Olivas Links Golf Course.
The Regals finished with a two-round score of 51-over-par, carding a 27-over 315 in the opening round before improving by three strokes with a 24-over 312 in the second round.
Caroline Morris, the lone returning All-SCIAC finisher from last season, led the Regals individually with an eighth-place finish at 4-over-par. The junior opened the tournament with a 1-over 73 before finishing with a 3-over 75 in the second round.
Anna Poulin finished just behind Morris, tying for 13th at 6-over-par. After opening with a 7-over 79, she responded with the strongest round of the tournament for the Regals, firing a 1-under 71 to finish six strokes better than her opening round.
Julia Booth tied for 32nd at 10-over-par, while
Lily Stern placed 43rd at 25-over. Freshman
Natalie Jones rounded out the Cal Lutheran lineup in 48th at 38-over in her first collegiate tournament.
The Regals' small but mighty five-player squad competed against a field that included Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, UC Santa Cruz, Pomona-Pitzer, Redlands, Occidental, Chapman, La Verne and Lewis & Clark.
Cal Lutheran continues its fall season September 28-29 at the Pacific Lutheran Invitational in Dupont, Washington.
