MOORPARK, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's and women's track and field turned in a solid showing at the Moorpark College Open on Friday, highlighted by several personal-best performances and strong finishes across both the men's and women's competitions.
On the men's side, the Kingsmen were led by a balanced effort across sprints, jumps, and throws.
Michael Holland paced the sprint group with a sixth-place finish in the 100 meters, crossing in 10.53, while also running a leg on the 4x100 relay team that placed fifth alongside
Craig Jackson,
Tyler Thompson, and
Logan Brock in 42.75.
Dylan Orquiola added a top-10 finish in the 400 meters (51.07), and
Jacob Witt represented the distance crew in the 5000 meters, finishing 10th in 16:51.62.
In the field events,
Marcus Rojas highlighted the day with a third-place finish in the shot put, recording a personal-best throw of 13.11 meters. He also competed in both the discus and hammer, placing 12th (36.76m) and eighth (40.42m), respectively. The hammer group saw additional success from
Jaden Ruiz and
Wyatt Nowak, who posted personal-best marks of 45.99 meters and 44.48 meters to place sixth and seventh.
The Kingsmen also saw strong performances in the jumps, as Thompson placed seventh in the long jump (6.57m), while
Landen Meonske and
Darrin Parham finished seventh and eighth in the triple jump with marks of 13.24 meters and 12.96 meters.
Josh DeVore added a tie for seventh in the high jump (1.75m), and
Julian Sepulveda rounded out the field events with a 14th-place finish in the javelin (34.24m).
On the women's side, the Regals were highlighted by a first-place finish and multiple top-three efforts.
Kaitlyn Brongiel led the way with a winning performance in the high jump, clearing a personal-best 1.60 meters—a mark that ties for eighth all-time in program history.
Maddi Lee and
Taylor Dominguez added to the event's success, each clearing 1.50 meters to tie for third, both personal bests.
Sloan Pullen delivered a strong race in the 1500 meters, placing third in 4:52.55, while
Ellie Sinclair earned a runner-up finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase (12:45.23).
Elise Thompson added another podium performance in the field events, placing third in the javelin with a throw of 28.94 meters.
On the track,
Gracie Gervacio led the sprint group with a tie for seventh in the 100 meters (12.11) and an 11th-place finish in the 200 meters (26.16), marking a season best in the latter.
Jodie Oparanaku recorded a personal-best 15.59 in the 100-meter hurdles to place seventh, and also contributed to the Regals' 4x100 relay team alongside Dominguez,
Niani Jones, and Gervacio, which finished in 52.79.
Jones added a pair of top-10 finishes in the jumps, placing ninth in the long jump (5.24m) and fifth in the triple jump (10.42m). In the throws,
Sophia Green recorded a personal-best 9.95 meters in the shot put and also competed in the discus and hammer.
Cal Lutheran returns to action on Saturday, April 11, at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite.
