Track & Field SCIAC Championships Preview

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's and women's track and field is set to compete at the 2026 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships on May 2-3, hosted by the University of Redlands at Ashel Cunningham Track.

The two-day championship meet will follow a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 scoring format for all events. Eight student-athletes will advance to the finals in all individual track events 800 meters and under, 12 will advance in the 1500 meters, and nine will advance in all field events.

THE MEET
Competition begins Saturday with multi-events in the morning before a full slate of field events and track finals in the afternoon and evening, highlighted by the 10,000-meter races to close the night. Sunday will feature the conclusion of the multi-events before championship finals on the track, including relays and distance events to wrap up the meet.

The championships return to Redlands for the first time since 2023, with the Bulldogs looking to capitalize on home-track advantage against a deep and competitive conference field.

LOOKING BACK
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps swept both team titles a year ago, claiming the men's championship with 202 points and the women's title with 200. Chapman finished runner-up on both sides, while Redlands, Pomona-Pitzer, and Occidental rounded out the top half of the standings.

Cal Lutheran placed eighth on the men's side and sixth in the women's standings in 2025 and will look to climb the leaderboard this weekend.

CAL LUTHERAN ATHLETES TO WATCH
The Regals and Kingsmen enter the championship with several competitors positioned to contend for podium finishes.

On the women's side, Kaitlyn Brongiel leads the way as one of the top high jumpers in the conference, entering the meet ranked third. Gracie Gervacio is also among the top sprinters, sitting tied for third in the 100 meters, while Niani Jones is a factor in both horizontal jumps with strong marks in the long jump and triple jump.

For the men, Cal Lutheran features a pair of standout two-sport athletes in Camden Hyde and Drew Nees. Hyde enters the weekend seeded second in the long jump, while Nees holds the same position in the high jump, giving the Kingsmen strong scoring opportunities in the field events.

CONFERENCE OUTLOOK
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps once again enters as the favorite on both the men's and women's sides, boasting multiple top-seeded athletes and national-level marks across distance, sprints, and field events.

Chapman and Pomona-Pitzer figure to challenge with balanced rosters, while Occidental and Redlands bring depth and momentum into the weekend—especially with Redlands competing on its home track.

Across the conference, several nationally ranked athletes highlight the competition, setting the stage for a fast and competitive championship meet.
