AZUSA, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's and women's track and field closed out the Azusa Pacific Last Chance meet with another weekend of strong performances against deep competition, highlighted by a pair of sprint victories from
Michael Holland and several solid efforts in distance and field events.
Holland continued his standout postseason on the men's side, claiming the Division III final of the 100 meters in 10.61 after tying for third in prelims with a 10.73. He also turned in one of the top performances of the meet in the 200 meters, winning his heat and placing seventh overall in 21.10 against a stacked field.
Craig Jackson and
Logan Brock both narrowly missed qualifying for the 100-meter final, finishing 12th and 13th overall in 11.10 and 11.12, respectively, while
Dylan Massengale-Franklin added marks in both the 100 and 200 meters.
In the field events,
Jaden Ruiz led the Kingsmen with a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw at 43.55 meters. Cal Lutheran also saw a pair of strong performances in the triple jump, as
Landen Meonske placed ninth with a leap of 13.33 meters and
Darrin Parham followed closely behind in 11th at 13.15 meters.
The Kingsmen distance group competed in a massive 1500-meter field of nearly 200 runners, with
Diego Romero clocking 4:31.81 and
Thomas Illson finishing in 4:33.56.
On the women's side,
Sloan Pullen and
Summer Gelman both competed in the 1500 meters, with Pullen leading the Regals in 4:44.22 and Gelman following in 4:50.26. Gelman also ran the 5000 meters and posted a time of 18:16.61, while
Alexis Gonzalez crossed in 18:52.11.
Gracie Gervacio represented the Regals in both sprint events, running 12.67 in the 100-meter prelims before adding a 26.40 effort in the 200 meters.
Jodie Oparanaku competed in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 16.03, and Elliette Sinclair turned in a 12:09.90 performance in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
Cal Lutheran will now send three athletes to the University of Redlands Final Qualifier meet, as Holland, Pullen, and Gelman each look to strengthen their NCAA Championship qualifying positions in one final opportunity before the national field is announced.
