ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – Cal Lutheran University collected two SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors as
Jessica Waters and
Izzy de Souza delivered standout performances for the Regals across softball and women's water polo, the conference announced Monday.
Softball – Hitter
Waters, a junior from Spokane, Washington, paced the Regals' offense with a dominant and clutch week at the plate, hitting 6-for-9 (.667) with a home run, two doubles, five RBI, three walks, and a stolen base across three key performances.
She opened her week with a 2-for-3 outing against Williams, delivering a walk-off RBI double in the fifth inning to secure a 10-2 run-rule victory. Waters then powered the offense in a win over Elmhurst, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run, double, and three RBI, including a first-inning homer to spark the scoring. Later in that game, with the score tied 6-6, she delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the sixth inning, shifting momentum and helping lift the Regals to a 9-6 win.
Waters added another RBI performance in a second run-rule victory over Elmhurst, continuing to produce in both high-leverage and decisive moments. She reached base consistently throughout the week and was a key catalyst in Cal Lutheran's three wins.
Her performance marks the first SCIAC Hitter of the Week honor for the Regals this season and the first of her career.
Women's Water Polo – Defensive
De Souza, a graduate goalkeeper from Irvine, California, anchored the Regals defense once again, earning her third SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week honor this season.
She totaled 12 saves while allowing just three goals across two conference victories, helping lead Cal Lutheran to a pair of landslide wins. De Souza recorded five saves while allowing just one goal against Caltech, before adding seven saves against Whittier.
Despite splitting time in the cage, de Souza made the most of her minutes, limiting scoring opportunities and maintaining her efficiency throughout both contests. Her steady presence in goal continues to set the tone defensively for the Regals as they remain strong in conference play.
