THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran softball was finally able to break through on Tuesday afternoon at Hutton Field, grinding out a pair of hard-fought wins to defeat SUNY Oneonta and secure its first doubleheader sweep of the season.
The Regals move to 6-12 overall, while the Red Dragons fall to 2-6.
GAME ONE: CAL LUTHERAN 8, ONEONTA 6
After falling behind 6-0 through three frames, Cal Lu flipped the game on its head with a six-run fifth inning and added insurance late to complete the comeback victory.
The Regals got on the board in the fourth on an RBI from
Olivia Oergel before erupting in the fifth.
Riley Osborne drew a bases-loaded walk,
Mia Reveles followed with an RBI single, and a Oneonta error helped cut the deficit to two.
Danielle Diaz delivered the biggest swing of the inning with a two-run double to tie the game, and
Sofia Aviles gave CLU the lead with a sacrifice fly.
Reyna Perez added breathing room in the sixth with an RBI single to cap the scoring.
Mia Reveles led the offense with two hits and an RBI, while Diaz and Perez each drove in runs.
In the circle,
Mia Cortez earned the win in relief, tossing 2.1 shutout innings, and
Ava Torre locked down the save with two scoreless frames, striking out three.
GAME TWO: CAL LUTHERAN 4, ONEONTA 3
Game two followed a similar script: tight, but clutch when it mattered most.
Reveles wasted no time putting the Regals on the board, launching a solo home run in the first inning.
After Oneonta took a 3-1 lead into the seventh, Cal Lutheran delivered late-game magic once again.
Riley Gonzalez sparked the rally with an RBI single, Perez tied the game with a run-scoring hit to left, and Reveles came around to score the game-winning run on a wild pitch to complete the walk-off comeback.
Kalli Strahm picked up the win in relief, closing out the final 1.2 innings.

Cal Lutheran returns to action and SCIAC play on the road Friday at Pomona-Pitzer, with first pitch set for 3 p.m. The Regals will then host the Sagehens for a doubleheader on Saturday.
