EAGLE ROCK, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran men's and women's track and field teams turned in another strong showing on Saturday at the Occidental Distance Carnival, highlighted by multiple personal-best performances and a first-place finish for the Kingsmen.
The meet saw Cal Lutheran athletes combine for 24 personal bests and eight season-best marks across the day.
On the men's side,
Landen Meonske led the way with the Kingsmen's top finish of the meet, winning the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 13.48 meters.
Michael Holland continued his impressive sprint season, finishing fourth in the 100 meters with a personal-best time of 10.72. The mark ranks fourth all-time in Cal Lutheran program history. Holland later helped the Kingsmen to a third-place finish in the 4x400 relay, teaming with
Tyler Thompson,
Nicolas Martinez, and
Joseph Papa to post a time of 3:35.35.
In the jumps,
Drew Nees cleared 1.90 meters to finish second in the high jump, while Thompson added a fourth-place result in the long jump with a mark of 6.61 meters.
The Kingsmen also saw improvement in the throwing events as
Marcus Rojas recorded a personal-best toss of 38.56 meters to place ninth in the discus.
On the women's side,
Gracie Gervacio paced the Regals in the sprints with a sixth-place finish in the 100 meters, running a season-best time of 12.70.
Sloan Pullen continued to lead the distance group, placing eighth in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:50.36.
The Regals turned in several strong performances in the field events.
Kaitlyn Brongiel and
Taylor Dominguez tied for third in the high jump after both clearing 1.45 meters, with Brongiel recording a personal best. Dominguez also added a fifth-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 3.10 meters.
Niani Jones finished tied for seventh in the long jump with a mark of 5.09 meters, while
Aaliyah Kendricks placed third in the triple jump at 9.80 meters.
Cal Lutheran also saw personal-best efforts in the throwing events as
Sophia Green placed seventh in the hammer throw with a mark of 39.19 meters, and
Elise Thompson finished fourth in the javelin with a personal-best toss of 28.26 meters.
Cal Lutheran will return to competition on Sunday, March 29, at the SCIAC Quad Cup Final hosted by Whittier.
