VENTURA, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran University men's and women's track and field teams turned in a strong all-around performance on Friday at the Ventura College Pirate Invite, combining for six event victories and numerous personal-best marks.
The Kingsmen were led by a dominant showing in the 400 meters, where
Michael Holland claimed the event title in 49.56, while
Dylan Orquiola followed closely behind in second at 50.45 to give Cal Lutheran a 1-2 finish.
Drew Nees added another win in the high jump, clearing 1.90 meters to top the field.
In the throws,
Kyndrie Bolton headlined the day with a victory in the hammer throw at 43.12 meters in a field comprised entirely of Kingsmen competitors. He also placed second in the discus (36.44m) and fifth in the shot put (12.70m).
Marcus Rojas secured a third-place finish in the shot put at 12.81 meters.
On the track,
Craig Jackson recorded a pair of top finishes, tying for fifth in the 100 meters (11.20) and placing sixth in the 200 meters (22.83).
Nicholas Moore (4:33.51) and
Thomas Illson (4:37.21) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 1500 meters, while
Adrian Rodriguez placed 10th in the 800 meters (2:09.25).
In the field events,
Tyler Thompson earned third in the long jump (6.25m), and
Darrin Parham added a third-place finish in the triple jump (12.18m).
Devon Whitley placed fourth in the javelin at 38.52 meters. In the pole vault,
Nicolas Martinez cleared 3.20 meters for second, and
Hein Nanda Kyaw took third at 2.75 meters.
On the women's side, the Regals accounted for three event wins, beginning with
Gabriela Pullen's first-place throw of 28.72 meters in the javelin.
Taylor Dominguez soared to a win in the high jump, clearing 1.50 meters, and
Niani Jones captured the triple jump title with a mark of 10.40 meters.
Jones also placed second in the long jump (4.86m), while Dominguez added a third-place finish in the same event at 4.80 meters.
Gracie Gervacio turned in a strong sprint double, placing third in the 100 meters (13.12) and fourth in the 200 meters (27.19).
In the distance events,
Angelina Diaz finished fifth in the 1500 meters (5:22.04), and Elliette Sinclair won the 5000 meters in 19:39.96 in a race featuring only Cal Lutheran competitors.
Jodie Oparanaku added a runner-up finish in the 100-meter hurdles (16.97).
Sophia Green contributed across three throwing events, placing sixth in the shot put (8.78m), fifth in the discus (28.11m), and second in the hammer throw (34.63m).
Cal Lutheran returns to action on Saturday, March 7, at the SCIAC Quad Cup Qualifier in Claremont, California.
