SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran men's and women's track and field teams continued their strong start to the 2026 season on Saturday at the Westmont Warrior Relays, posting eight top-three finishes and more than 25 personal-best marks.
The Kingsmen were paced by sophomore
Drew Nees, who delivered a personal-best clearance of 1.95 meters in the high jump to finish second overall. The mark moves him into a tie for eighth all-time in program history.
Tyler Thompson added a third-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.39 meters and later placed 11th overall in the 60 meters (7.16), taking second in his heat.
Landen Meonske also reached the podium, placing third in the triple jump at 12.58 meters.
On the track,
Daniel Velasquez ran 4:59.44 to finish 10th in the mile. In the 150 meters,
Craig Jackson (17.00) and
Dylan Orquiola (17.10) finished 10th and 11th overall, with Orquiola earning a second-place finish in his heat.
In the throwing events,
Jaden Ruiz placed eighth in the weight throw (12.47m), while
Marcus Rojas recorded sixth-place finishes in both the shot put (12.43m) and discus (36.49m).
The Regals saw strong performances of their own, led by senior
Sophia Green's third-place mark of 12.55 meters in the weight throw. She also added a fifth-place finish in the shot put at 9.12 meters.
Gabriela Pullen earned a runner-up finish in the javelin with a throw of 29.05 meters, and
Niani Jones contributed fourth-place points in the long jump (4.91m) and fifth in the triple jump (10.48m).
Taylor Dominguez cleared 3.20 meters to take sixth in the pole vault.
On the track,
Gracie Gervacio won her heat in both the 60 meters (8.04) and 150 meters (19.88), placing 13th and 11th overall. In the 3000 meters,
Alexis Gonzalez (11:21.40) and
Ellie Sinclair (11:22.89) finished eighth and ninth to round out the distance events.
All relays at the meet were contested as co-ed events, with Cal Lutheran entering six mixed teams across the 4x800 and distance medley relays, each featuring two Kingsmen and two Regals.
Cal Lutheran returns to competition on Friday, February 20, sending a group to Arizona for the NAU Tune Up while others compete locally at the Ventura College Pirate Invite.
