Regals 6th, Kingsmen 8th at SCIAC Champs

EAGLE ROCK, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's and women's track and field competed at the 2025 SCIAC Championships on Saturday and Sunday, hosted by Occidental College.

The Regals finished sixth as a team and the Kingsmen were eighth, highlighted by seven all-conference finishes, three CLU top ten all-time marks, and over 20 personal bests across both teams.

For the women, sprinter Gracie Gervacio was a standout in the 100-meter dash. She qualified for finals with a fifth-place finish in the prelims at 12.69 seconds before going on to take seventh, improving her time to 12.60. Summer Gelman impressed in the 1500, placing fifth in prelims (4:45.95) before taking fourth in the finals with a time of 4:41.82.

Jodie Oparanaku placed seventh in prelims of the 100 hurdles (16.05) and improved to sixth in the finals with 15.76. Fatima Cervantes also made the finals, finishing sixth in the 400 hurdles (1:10.47) after placing fifth in prelims with a time of 1:08.13. 

The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Oparanaku, Cervantes, Jennyfer Hernandez Rosas, and Gervacio clocked in at 50.45 for a fifth-place finish, and the 4x400-meter squad of Gervacio, Cervantes, Elliette Sinclair, and Hernandez Rosas placed sixth with 4:09.88.

In the field events, Taylor Dominguez had a breakout weekend, earning All-SCIAC honors in both the high jump and pole vault. She tied for second in the high jump at 1.57 meters, a performance that ties for tenth all-time in CLU history. She also tied for second in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.18 meters. Niani Jones contributed two top-eight finishes, taking seventh in the long jump (5.09m) and sixth in the triple jump (10.71m).

Cheyanne Rodriguez continued her top-notch junior season, competing in four events. She placed second in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.72m to earn All-SCIAC, finished fourth in the discus (35.53m), ninth in the javelin (30.94m), and 14th in the shot put (9.04m).

In the heptathlon, Gabriela Pullen finished seventh overall with 3,254 points, a mark that ranks eighth all-time in Cal Lu history.

On the men's side, the Kingsmen's biggest successes came in the jumps, where they were the only program in the conference to have student-athletes earn all-conference in the high jump, long jump, and triple jump.

In the high jump, Drew Nees placed second while Camden Hyde took third, both earning All-SCIAC nods. Aidan Crawford had a strong meet as well, placing third in the long jump with a leap of 6.76m to earn all-conference honors. Darrin Parham rounded out the podium finishes with a third-place mark of 14.03m in the triple jump, securing All-SCIAC and moving up to seventh all-time in program history.

On the track, Crawford was also the top CLU finisher in the 200-meter dash, placing 13th in prelims with a time of 22.51. Dominic De Leon placed eighth in both prelims (59.44) and finals (59.45) in the 400-meter hurdles.

In the relays, the Kingsmen 4x100-meter team of Caleb Berry, Nees, Parham, and Matthew Crellin finished eighth with a time of 45.25, and 4x400 squad of Joseph Papa, Crawford, Brady Karsten, and De Leon placed seventh with 3:25.87.

In the throws, Wyatt Nowak finished tenth in the shot put (12.02m) and 15th in the discus (34.65m). Jaden Ruiz placed 16th in the hammer throw (36.26m), while Julian Sepulveda finished 16th in the javelin (38.86m).

The Regals and Kingsmen will head back to Eagle Rock this weekend to compete in the Occidental Invite, which is set for Saturday, May 3 and 10 AM.
