WHITTIER, Calif. – Cal Lutheran track and field delivered a strong all-around performance on Sunday at the SCIAC Quad Cup Final, finishing second overall in combined team scoring and totaling nine event victories in a competitive, heat-filled meet.
The Regals set the tone early on the women's side, combining dominant distance performances with key field event wins and a handful of all-time marks.
Summer Gelman led the distance group with a pair of standout efforts, winning the 1500 meters in 4:57.02 while also placing third in the 800 meters with a season-best 2:29.72.
Sloan Pullen added another event win in the 5000 meters, crossing in a personal-best 18:39.73—a mark that moves her into the program's all-time top 10.
Both Gelman and Pullen also competed Friday night at the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival at UCLA, where Gelman posted a 1500 time of 4:42.65—an improvement from her season debut a year ago—while Pullen recorded a personal-best 4:48.62, climbing to ninth all-time in program history.
In the sprints,
Gracie Gervacio turned in a strong day with a pair of season-best performances, placing third in the 100 meters (12.65) and fourth in the 200 meters (26.55). She also anchored the Regals' 4x100 relay team of
Jodie Oparanaku,
Taylor Dominguez, and
Niani Jones to a second-place finish in 51.26.
Oparanaku added a runner-up finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a season-best 16.08, while
Ellie Sinclair claimed victory in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a personal-best 12:33.63.
The Regals were especially strong in the field events, highlighted by a win from Dominguez in the pole vault (3.20m), where
Payton Montes placed second with a personal-best 2.60m. Jones captured the triple jump title with a mark of 11.01 meters and added a second-place finish in the long jump (4.87m).
In the throws,
Sophia Green placed second in the hammer with a personal-best 39.26 meters and third in the discus with a season-best 32.17 meters.
Gabriela Pullen recorded a personal-best 31.48 meters to finish second in the javelin—moving into the program's all-time top 10—while
Elise Thompson followed closely in third with a personal-best 30.78 meters.
Kaitlyn Brongiel rounded out the field event highlights with a personal-best clearance of 1.47 meters to place third in the high jump.
On the men's side,
Michael Holland continued his standout sprint season, winning both the 100 meters (10.81) and 200 meters (21.76). His 200-meter time marked a personal best and moved him into eighth all-time in program history. Holland also ran the anchor leg on the Kingsmen's second-place 4x400 relay team alongside
Tyler Thompson,
Dylan Orquiola, and
Joseph Papa, finishing in 3:24.64.
In the field events,
Kyndrie Bolton led a dominant showing in the shot put, winning with a personal-best throw of 13.11 meters, while
Marcus Rojas placed second at 12.98 meters. Bolton added a third-place finish in the hammer (46.43m), and Rojas took fourth in the discus (38.07m).
Drew Nees delivered one of the top performances of the day in the high jump, clearing a personal-best 1.97 meters to place second and move into sole possession of eighth on the program's all-time list.
The Kingsmen also excelled in the horizontal jumps, with
Camden Hyde winning the long jump (6.63m) and Thompson placing third (6.49m). In the triple jump,
Darrin Parham (13.39m, season best) and
Landen Meonske (12.69m) finished second and third, respectively.
Devon Whitley added a personal-best throw of 44.10 meters to place third in the javelin, while
Nicolas Martinez contributed a third-place finish in the 400 meters (52.53).
Cal Lutheran will return to action on Friday, April 3, at the Moorpark College Open.
