THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's swimming and diving (0-2, 0-2 SCIAC) competed at a high level at the Caltech Invite over the weekend, finishing second of four SCIAC teams with 828.5 points. Five Kingsmen recorded marks that made the program all-time top-10 list.
Cal Lutheran was joined by host Caltech, Occidental, and Redlands for the weekend invite.
Freshman
Ian Reece continued a torrid start to his collegiate career with the 6th-lowest time in program history in the 200y IM at 1:54.98, almost six seconds higher than his previous best. Reece managed to win the event for Cal Lutheran.
A couple events later,
Andreas Nordlund tied for the 6th-best time in program history in the 50y freestyle at 21.04 to win the event for the Kingsmen.
An additional trio of freshmen added their names to the top-10 list.
Gabe Benitez now appears two more times after logging the 8th-lowest time in the 1,650y freestyle (16:53.02) and the 10th-lowest time in the 500y freestyle (4:50.99).
Connor Overton swam the 9th-best time in Cal Lutheran history in the 100y backstroke at 53.74. Kylee Lee joined the party with the 10th-lowest time in program history at 2:08.99.
After this impressive showing, Cal Lutheran will take some time off before returning in the new year to host the annual Chris Knorr Invite on January 2.
