WHITTIER, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's swimming and diving (0-2, 0-2 SCIAC) competed in brutal rainy conditions at Whittier on Saturday in a close 145-131 dual meet loss.
Camden Franjieh set the program record for 11-dive score in the 1m dive, and
Ian Reece set a lifetime best in the 200y freestyle.
Reece's time of 1:45.64 was his all-time personal best, and it was enough to get the win in the 200y freestyle.
Markus Stegbuchner had a nice day with two first-place finishes in the 100y (1:00.21) and 200y (2:12.05) breaststrokes.
Andreas Nordlund continued his nice start to the season, placing first in the 100y freestyle with a time of 48.30.
Franjieh set a school record with a first-place score of 529.05 in the 11-dive 1m, marking his second qualifying score of the season. He will officially compete in the NCAA Regionals in the 1m dive, as two qualifying scores is the threshold. Franjieh also won the 3m dive with a score of 459.53, his first qualifying score of the year in the 3m dive.
The dual meet came down to the last race, the 200y freestyle relay. Whittier beat Cal Lutheran's fastest quartet of Nordlund, Reece,
Connor Overton, and
Tristan Serrano by a mere .17 seconds (1:26.94 to 1:27.11) and won the meet.
The Kingsmen will be back in action next weekend at the Caltech Invite.
