PASADENA, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's swimming and diving swept Redlands and Caltech on Saturday, as they defeated the Bulldogs 217-76 and the Beavers 174.5-125.5. The men's team went 1-1, beating Redlands 144-123 and falling to Caltech 81-198.
Head Coach
Barry Schreifels said, "for both the men and the women, the veterans really stepped up and performed".
The teams combined for 11 event wins with the women winning nine and the men taking two.
Kendall Moffitt and
Madi Bodhidatta led the way with three event wins each. Moffitt won the 1000 free with 10:52.33, the 200 butterfly with 2:12.59, and the 500 free with 5:19.76. Bodhidatta took the 50 free with 24.57, the 100 free with 54.16, and the 100 butterfly with 1:00.10.
Tori Portillo added two more individual event wins, claiming the 100 and 200 breaststroke at 1:09.88 and 2:31.71, respectively. The Regals also had one relay victory as
Breann Bracken,
Faith Timney, Moffitt, and
Cam Alexander won the 400 freestyle at 3:43.70.
On the men's side,
Lincoln Hall had the lone individual win as he took the 100 breaststroke at 58.43.
"
Caelan Jack was especially tough," Coach Schreifels added. He stepped out of a fast 200 IM to anchor the men's 400 free relay to an excellent win". Also contributing to the relay win (3:14.40) were
Andreas Nordlund, Hall, and
Zane Hermann.
The Regals and Kingsmen collected 11 runner-up finishes and 13 third-place finishes to round out the meet.
Next weekend, the teams will return to the pool in a similar tri-meet fashion, this time with the nationally ranked Stags and Athenas of CMS and the La Verne Leopards in Claremont.
