THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The 2025 Cal Lutheran Track and Field season begins today as the Kingsmen and Regals compete at the Moorpark College Invitational. With their core group of returners and a strong newcomer class, both the men's and women's teams are ready to make some waves in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
The men's track and field team will see a group of 12 new athletes joining a squad of 16 returners from a team that took eighth place at the SCIAC Championships last year. This season, the Kingsmen have been selected to finish eighth again according to the coaches preseason poll.
Head Coach
Brett Halvaks said, "the Kingsmen and Regals have been bonding well the first few weeks of our season, and the team captains have been doing a great job building a tight knit group. We are excited to start competing as the team always grows closer at meets while we are out supporting each other".
Leading the men's team among the returners will be three of the team's top performers from last season: sophomore jumper
Camden Hyde, junior jumper
Darrin Parham, and senior distance runner
Eric Talbert.
"We are excited about the potential of our Kingsmen this season as we are bringing back good experience from last year and also have 12 new student athletes who we are looking to make an impact on our team. We have a good mix of experience and new members to the team that I believe will help us throughout the season," said Halvaks.
WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
On the women's side, the Regals hold a roster of 16 newcomers and 16 returners after earning seventh place at SCIAC last season. This year, the team is tied for sixth in the coaches preseason poll with the Beavers of Caltech.
"This Regals team is one of the bigger teams we have had in recent years, and we bring a lot of new members with 16 new student athletes to the roster from last year. We look forward to seeing how this team develops throughout the season, and we feel confident this team will grow into its potential by SCIAC Championships," Halvaks added.
At the forefront of the Regal's returners will be sophomore jumper
Niani Jones and junior thrower
Cheyanne Rodriguez. Junior transfer
Summer Gelman will also look to put up some big numbers in the distance events after her stellar cross country season last fall.
