THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — California Lutheran University announced the appointment of Kecia Davis as head coach of the Regal's softball program on August 7th. The program has earned six SCIAC championships in its history.
Entering her 34th year with the athletic department, Davis brings extensive knowledge and experience to Cal Lutheran athletics. She is a long-time member of the department, demonstrating a sincere commitment to the university.
"This is family. I've been doing it for 34 years… I've done a little bit of everything. It's just home. I love coming to work every day. I love working with student-athletes every day. It's a privilege to be here," said Davis.
In 1991, Kecia began her esteemed career at Cal Lutheran, holding various positions during her time at the university. She initially worked as an assistant athletic trainer for four years before being promoted to head athletic trainer. Kecia diligently served as the head athletic trainer for an impressive 26 years, from 1995 to 2021.
Davis was appointed as the Director of Health, Wellness, and Performance at Cal Lutheran in the fall of 2021, solidifying her influence and leadership within the university.
Davis is returning for her second term as the Regals' softball head coach. She previously held the position from 1994 to 1998, during which time she led the team to an overall record of 141-59-1. Throughout five seasons, Davis guided the Regals to four SCIAC championships. Davis emphasized her excitement about rejoining the softball program. She exclaimed the desire to win the conference and implement a championship mentality.
"We are fortunate to have a person on staff who has such softball coaching expertise," said Director of Athletics Howard Davis. "Kecia has served the CLU Athletic Department so well for so long. It is not surprising that she would agree to take on this important program at a time when we needed her."
After accepting the position, Davis sent out a mass email to former Regals softball players, unveiling her plans for the program's inaugural Alumni Appreciation Weekend. She wants to recognize former Regal players for their contributions to the program. Davis is excited about the opportunity to partner with former players to educate the current players on the importance and influence of their predecessors.
Upon Davis's return as the head coach of Regal's softball team, an immediate wave of change is set into motion.
