CLAREMONT, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's and women's swimming and diving opened up their SCIAC slate on Saturday, battling with one of the top programs in the nation. The Kingsmen fell to the No. 15 Sagehens 71-209 while the Regals were defeated by the No. 8 women 101-199.
The Kingsmen won two events with juniors
Sebi Petho and
Markus Stegbuchner leading the way. Petho took first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with 10:07.34 while Stegbuchner swam to victory in the 100-yard breaststroke with 1:00.23. The men also had three combined runner-up finishes from Stegbuchner, senior
Edgar Martinez, and sophomore
Evan Encell. Martinez took second in the 200-yard butterfly with 2:02.33, Encell in the 50-yard freestyle with 22.31, and Stegbuchner in the 200-yard breaststroke with .2:14.42
On the women's side, the Regals racked up four first place finishes, including three from senior
Kendall Moffitt, and five runner-ups. Moffitt took first in every event she competed in with 10:47.05 in the 1,000-yard free, 2:12.32 in the 200 free, and 5:20.16 in the 500 free. Rounding out the top finishers was first-year diver
Brooke Blaylock, scoring 248.85 on the 3-meter.
Juniors
Maddie Greig and
Madi Bodhidatta and first-year
Cam Alexander picked up the five runner-up places. Greig scored 232.95 on the 3-meter dive and 248.85 on the 1-meter, while Bodhidatta took second in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyles with 24.54 and 53.83 respectively. Alexander completed the 500 free with 5:23.60.
The Kingsmen and Regals continue the season next weekend, hosting Whittier on Saturday, November 9th at 10:30 AM.
