THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The men's swimming and diving team showed their excitement to be competing again with a strong win at home against Redlands. They defeated the Bulldogs with a score of 123-74 on Saturday.
Junior Luke Rodarte raced to first in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching in at 54.61 seconds. With this performance, Rodarte automatically qualifies as CSCAA First Team All-America as he was finished under the qualifying time.
In an exhibition event, senior Andreas Nybo swam a 1:48.96 in the 200-free in which he nearly made the qualifying Division III All-American time. Due to there being no NCAA championships for swim and dive this season, if he makes this time in an upcoming meet, he would be also recognized as an All-American.
Starting off strong in relays, juniors Miles Gaitan and Rodarte, alongside seniors Nybo, and Nick Kenny came away with a championship time of 1:34.20 in the 200-yard medley relay. This time brought in 11 points to the men's total.
Junior Stephen Blaauw brought in a time of 9:50 in the 1000-yard freestyle in which he bested his prior top 3 time of 9:50.10 in the record books.
Nybo also touched the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 49.44.
Gaitan contributed greatly to the Kingsman today as he also finished first in the 100-yard backstroke (52.57), as well as Blaauw who finished first in the 500-yard freestyle event with a time of 4:47.65.
To finish the day off, senior Kye Daniels, Nybo, Gaitan, and Blaauw took the top spot, finishing at 3:14.26, in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
A third meet for the Kingsmen this spring is in April as CLU travels to Redlands on April 10.
