CLAREMONT, Calif. - On the road Friday afternoon, the Cal Lutheran softball team lost a pair of low scoring games, 2-1 in eight innings followed by a 3-1 defeat, to Pomona-Pitzer at Wig Beach Field.

PP def. CLU 2-1 (8)
The first game of the afternoon was a pitcher's duel all the way, with Regals ace Courtney Sooy and Sagehens starter Liz Rodarte going the distance.

Pomona-Pitzer got on the board first with a solo homerun in the second inning, but the Regals would answer back in the fourth. Jacy Watanabe led off the inning with an infield base hit, followed by a single from Amanda Lewis. With one out, Andrea Brackpool stepped up to the dish and singled to right to score Watanabe and tie the game, 1-1.

The game would head into extra innings and in the bottom of the eighth, Bianca Cockrell hit a walk-off homerun to win the game for Pomona-Pitzer.

Rodarte (7-9) struck out 11 Regals while walking only one to earn the victory in the circle while Sooy (10-9) was handed a heartbreaking defeat despite scattering five hits and striking out five.

Blake Lewis finished 2-for-4 at the plate to lead CLU and Mikaela Mayhew, Hannah Brown also had hits to go along with Watanabe, A. Lewis and Brackpool.

PP def. CLU 3-1
The Sagehens started the nightcap exactly how they finished game one, opening with a two-run homerun to take an early 2-0 lead after the first inning.

The Violet and Gold responded in the second after Mayhew came through with a two-out RBI single to score Mo Ramirez, who reached on an error earlier in the inning.

The Sagehens scored once more in the third on an RBI single and Rodarte struck out eight more Regals to keep their offense at bay.

Watanabe added two hits to lead CLU at the plate.

Notables: With six games remaining on the schedule, the Regals sit just two games out of fourth place and the final spot for the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.

Up Next: Cal Lutheran (13-20, 7-15 SCIAC) will return home to Hutton Field tomorrow, Apr. 23, for a pair of games against Occidental beginning at 12:00 p.m.
