THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - In a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) double header at La Verne today, Cal Lutheran baseball earned a pair of victories, 4-2 and 6-2, to complete a weekend sweep of the Leopards.

Trailing in the early goings, CLU knotted things at 1-1 in the top of the fifth and took a 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth. Although La Verne got one back in the bottom of the sixth, CLU added an insurance run in the ninth. Ramsey Abushahla and Chad Clark each had two hits and an RBI apiece while Max Price also had an RBI. Davey Casciola scored a pair of runs for the Violet and Gold. Justin Caña ended a LV scoring threat with a diving catch in centerfield to end the third frame and CLU did not commit an error in the game. On the hill, Evan Peterson (4-1) pitched 7.1 innings, scattering seven hits and allowing two runs while striking out three. Nate Wehner earned his first save of the spring for the Kingsmen after working the final 1.2 innings in which he struck out four without allowing a hit or run.

The second game was more of the same as Cal Lutheran jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back. Jimmy Jauregui drove in C. Clark with the first run of the game and in the third inning Abushahla crossed the plate on a balk. La Verne scored a pair in the bottom of the third, but two runs in the fifth and another pair in the ninth propelled the Kingsmen to their third win of the weekend. Gabe Gunter had three of the 12 hits and he drove in one while scoring once. Abushahla had another two-hit game and Eddie Villegas also notched a pair of hits. Abushahla and C. Clark both scored twice. Brad Fullerton and Sinjin Todd each had a hit and an RBI in the win and Todd also walked twice. Marshall Pautsch (5-2) got the win after throwing 5.0 innings, striking out four and allowing two hits on six hits. Ryan Bill went 3.0 innings and Landry Kiyabu worked the final frame, recording three and one strike outs, respectively.
Cal Lutheran (23-9, 17-4) rounds out its regular season series next weekend against conference-leading Occidental. The first game will be Friday, April 22 at Anderson Field on the road beginning at 3:00 p.m.
