CLAREMONT, Calif. - On the road against a red hot No. 7 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps squad, the Cal Lutheran softball team dropped a pair to the Athenas, falling 10-1 in game one before dropping the nightcap 8-0.

Hannah Brown led off the first inning with a single up the middle, and came around to score on a series of errors after a single by Amanda Lewis to give the Regals a 1-0 lead. That, however, would be the lone highlight of the game for the Violet and Gold as they managed just one hit for the remainder of the contest. CMS broke through with three runs in the second, four in the third and three more in the fourth to clinch the five inning mercy rule win.

Shannon O'Neill (1-0) picked up the win for the Athenas after tossing four innings and striking out six while Blake Lewis (0-1) was tagged with the loss in her first start of the year.

In the second and final game of the afternoon, the Athenas continued their dominance as Molly Rubidoux (10-3) threw all five innings allowing just one hit and striking out three. Brown finished 1-for-2 at the plate, providing the lone hit for the Regals.

Up Next: Cal Lutheran (11-18, 5-13 SCIAC) will return home tomorrow, Apr. 16 for a doubleheader against Chapman beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Hutton Field.
