THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - A rescheduled Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) series between the Cal Lutheran and Pomona-Pitzer softball teams had a promising start for the Regals, but it was the Sagehens who walked away from Hutton Field victorious, defeating the host squad 8-6 and 6-0.

After a scoreless top of the first inning in game one, the Regals bats started hot, collecting five runs on six hits in the first frame as CLU batted around. Blake Lewis lifted a sacrifice fly, plating Hannah Brown with the first run of the day. With two down, Andrea Brackpool drove in Amanda Lewis to spark a string of three consecutive hits A Courtney Sooy single scored Brackpool and Jacy Watanabe drew a walk to reload the bases for Mikaela Mayhew who stroked a two-RBI double to right field, capping off the inning.

Brownmade a fantastic catch running into the centerfield wall for the first out in the top of the second during a 1-2-3 inning that saw Sooy, the CLU starting pitcher, follow with a foul popup to Olivia Leyva at third base and a popup to Antonia Rapisardi.

Pomona-Pitzer put up a crooked number in the top of the third on a two-RBI double by pitcher Bianca Cockrell to cut the lead to 5-2. With runners on the corners, Sooy got her first strikeout of the game to end a further threat.

Rapisardi drove in Mayhewwith an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth to tack on another run and increase the CLU lead to 6-2.

Unfortunately, a four-run inning from Pomona-Pitzer, in which all runs were unearned, tied things up after five and a half and the Sagehens took a lead in the sixth on a solo homerun by Cockrell and an RBI triple from Liz Rodarte.

Sooy (8-8) threw a complete game, scattering 14 hits and allowing just four earned runs while striking out six with one called. PP reliever Emily Rockhill (2-3) earned the win after working 2.2 innings, striking out four and not surrendering a run.

Mayhew went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored and both Brackpool and Leyva finished with two hits and a run scored.

In the second game of the day, Abbigael Howard and Rapisardi teamed up for a first inning runner caught stealing and the Regals escaped the opening frame unscathed.

PP struck first on a solo homerun, which just cleared the left field fence, from Sam Carlson to get the visiting team on the board. PP tacked on a second run on a sacrifice fly, but a well-executed defensive 8-3-6-5 rundown from Cal Lutheran ended the inning at third base. Pomona-Pitzer added three runs in the fourth and another in the top of the sixth to open a 6-0 advantage.

The Cal Lutheran bats cooled off and the Regals tallied just five hits, with two more from Brown including an infield single. B. Lewis, Leyva and Alyssa Anderson rounded out the offense. Anderson and Rapisardi also each drew a walk in the loss.

Anderson (0-2) earned her second start in as many days and tossed 3.2 innings before handing the ball to Nicole White-Madolora for 3.11. Anderson struck out one and allowed five hits and as many runs.

The two teams will rematch on Friday, April 22 at Pomona-Pitzer with first pitch set for 2:00 p.m.

Cal Lutheran (11-16, 5-11 SCIAC) travels to conference-leading Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday, April 15 for two games beginning at 2:00 p.m.
