PASADENA, Calif. - The second Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) series of the spring pits Cal Lutheran baseball against Caltech. CLU def. CIT 9-3
The Kingsmen struck first with a run in the second inning and added a pair in the third. Although the Beavers knotted things up at 3-3 in the bottom of the third that was as much as Caltech would get while Cal Lutheran scored the ultimate winning run in the top of the fourth, tacked on three more in the seventh and one in both the eighth and ninth.

Weston Clark paced the offense with three hits while Justin Caña, Nick Cohan and Eddie Villegas each collected a pair. Both Cohan and Ramsey Abushahla crossed the plate twice and Davey Casciola and Jimmy Jaregui drove in two runs apiece in the game. Additionally, Cohan stole the only base of the game on either side.

Defensively, Clark recorded 18 putouts at first base while Casciola finished with three putouts and six assists and starting pitcher Trey Saito and second baseman Jeff Rebello each had six touches without a miscue.

Saito (3-1) tossed 7.0 innings, striking out one and allowing three runs, all earned, on eight hits. Nate Wehner and Landry Kiyabu each threw an inning. Wehner struck out two and retired the side in order while Kiyabu faced four batters.

Notables: Today was the second straight start at shortstop for Casciola. Jeff Rebello got the start at second for his first start in the field this spring, though he served as the designated hitter against Sul Ross State (Feb. 14).

The opponent: Kai Kirk (0-3) was tagged with the loss for Caltech after allowing seven runs on seven hits. Left fielder Dylan Schultz collected two of the nine CIT hits today.

Up Next: Cal Lutheran (5-4, 3-1 SCIAC) and Caltech (1-8, 0-7) will reconvene tomorrow, Saturday, March 5, at Ullman Stadium for two more SCIAC games. First pitch is slated for 11:00 a.m. on George "Sparky" Anderson Field.
