THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Ninth Annual Cal Lutheran Invitational at the Samuelson Aquatics Center and Thousand Oaks High School got underway this morning with Cal Lutheran hosting Siena for the first of 25 games over three days at the two venues.

The first games of the weekend at the Second Annual Tina Finali Invitational was a back-and-forth battle between the host Regals and Siena with the Violet and Gold breaking a 7-7 tie on two quick fourth quarter goals, never looking back. Solid defensive stands coupled with fantastic execution at the offensive end earned CLU its second win of the spring.
Leading the way with two goals apiece were KC Brendel, Kristi McGee and Nicole Roed. McGee scored the ultimate winning goal on the first possession of the fourth frame. Roed also drew a game-high four ejections while Maddie Campbell handed out a pair of assists. A trio of players in Roed, Bailey Likewise and Lauren Shackelford each notched a field block and Tatiana McCuaig had a team-leading three steals as CLU combined for 15. Goalkeeper Gina Merry finished with eight saves.

In the second game of the day, Cal Lutheran returned to action and used the early momentum it built in the afternoon to play the lowest scoring game of the day. The Regals erased a 2-1 first quarter deficit with the only goal of the second stanza. After a two-goal third for the visiting Otters and one from the Regals, the fourth quarter arrived and CLU stepped up, scoring twice while the defensive unit shined, shutting out CSUMB. McGee notched a hat-trick while Roed converted a five-meter shot and Shackelford added the final score of the nightcap. The only assist came from Mardell Ramirez and McGee and Roed earned three and two drawn ejections, respectively. Three more field blocks in the game came by way of McGee, Megan Seeman and Logan Young while Merry notched 10 saves with a steal in the win.
Cal Lutheran (3-6) is set to play two more games tomorrow with the first at 10:30 a.m. against CSU Bakersfield with a second against Fresno Pacific at 2:15 p.m.
