REDLANDS, Calif. - The Cal Lutheran women's water polo team used a four-goal second stanza to take down Redlands 9-7 in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) road game this morning.
UR opened a 2-1 lead after the first frame, but CLU would rally for four goals, allowing just one, during the second eight minute period to take a 5-3 halftime advantage, which proved to be the difference as each squad netted four goals in the second half.
Amanda Jones and Sara Simpson combined to win all four sprints, taking two in the first and second half, respectively, and the defense came away with 26 steals with every player recording at least one for the Violet and Gold. Gina Merry tallied 11 saves as the goalkeeper.
Leading the pack with four steals apiece were Adrianne Ingalla and Tatiana McCuaig. Jones, Merry, Simpson and Logan Young each finished with three as well.
Scoring twice apiece today for CLU were Simpson, Jordan Card and Kaylee Kastrup. Ingallahanded out a team-leading three assists and Tatiana McCuaig tallied two. Card, Kastrup, Young and KC Brendel all drew two ejections.
The Regals move above .500 and into the fourth spot in the league standings with one regular season game to play.
Cal Lutheran (8-19, 4-3 SCIAC) returns to the Samuelson Aquatics Center for the last home contest of the spring on Wednesday, April 16 when the Regals host La Verne for a 5:00 p.m. first sprint.
