CLAREMONT, Calif. - A game featuring two of the top teams in Division III went the way of host Pomona-Pitzer as the Cal Lutheran water polo team dropped an 8-5 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) decision to the Sagehens on the road today.
After the first two stanzas the teams were knotted at 3-3, but a four-goal third quarter from PP was the difference in the game as CLU netted just one in the period before the teams would exchange a goal apiece in the final frame.
Leading the attack for the Regals were Jordan Card and Adrienne Ingalla as each contributed in numerous ways. Card drew a team-leading five ejections, adding two goals, one on a five-meter opportunity, and a steal while Ingalla was responsible for a trio of field blocks and two steals at the defensive end of the pool, chipping in with a pair of assists and a goal on the offensive side.
Amanda Jones also turned in another strong performance as she tallied a team-high four steals, also drawing an ejection.
The other scoring for CLU came from KC Brendel and Tatiana McCuaig.
In front of the cage, Gina Merry recorded nine saves and added two steals in the loss.
Cal Lutheran (5-17, 1-1 SCIAC) is back in action on Saturday, March 29 when the Regals travel to Chapman for an 11:00 a.m. contest against the Panthers.
