WHITTIER Calif. - After struggling to find their offense on Friday, Cal Lutheran poured in 18 goals en route to an 18-3 victory over Caltech on day two of the three-day 2012 SCIAC Women's Water Polo Championships hosted by Whittier

A pair of the six CLU first period goals came by way of Illissa Mestas as the Regals opened a 6-2 advantage early on. They would add four more unanswered goals in the second stanza to comfortably sit ahead 10-2 at the intermission.
While Cal Lutheran kept Caltech off the board until the final 19 seconds, the Regals tacked on eight more as 12 different players recorded at least one.
The offensive output was paced by Mestas, Jordan Card, Shannon Streeter, Kelsey Bergemann, Kehau Ai and Mieke Howell who each scored twice. Christina Messer got the Regals on the board with a 5m shot in the opening period. Lindsay Bowden, Kaylee Kastrup, Sarah Mock, Kennedy Peters and Lauren Ray each found the back of the net as well. Mock and Card each handed out two assists. CLU collectively drew five ejections.
Defensively Tiffany Ly finished with a game high four steals while Messer tallied three. Lauren Biggs, Adrienne Ingalla and Bowden finished with a pair apiece.
Skylar Vasquez was a rock in front of the cage. She blocked five shots and came away with a steal.
Cal Lutheran (17-11, 5-4) will face off with the host Poets in a battle for fifth place at 11:45 a.m. on Sunday at the Lillian Slade Aquatics Center to conclude the season.
