THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Cal Lutheran women's water polo was on the short end of a 10-3 decision to No. 17 ranked Division I program Cal State University Northridge at the Samuelson Aquatics Center on Thursday afternoon.

Box Score: CSUN 10, CLU 3 - F

The Matadors (12-14) led by five after one quarter and six different players contributed to a 6-0 scoring run to open the game. Cal Lutheran's Sarah Mock scored an even strength goal from close range to end the CSUN run and put the Regals on the scoreboard just before halftime.

The CLU offense took advantage in the third quarter after creating two of its four player advantage opportunities. Mieke Howell converted both chances with outside shots in the waning seconds of the power plays.

After surrendering five first quarter goals the Regals defense held the Matadors to just five more scores over the final three periods. Starting goalkeeper Kylee Tomasetti made four first half saves before giving way to Jessika Bell who stopped six shots in the second half.

CSUN's Melissa Doll scored a pair of early third quarter goals to match a game-high total along with teammate Molly Henehan, and CLU's Howell.

Cal Lutheran was unable to earn its first win over Cal State Northridge in four all-time meetings between the two squads. However the Regals played the Matadors tougher than any other SCIAC team after CSUN defeated Pomona-Pitzer 11-2 and Occidental 19-6 earlier this season.

Cal Lutheran (12-7) will open conference play at home on Saturday, March 31, against La Verne (7-10) at 11 a.m.
